7 Doubts You Face as a Blogger and How to Make Them Your B*tch
Trying to figure out what to blog about next week or how best to use social media to grow your blog are tough problems to crack. But there are much bigger issues at play here folks.
Serious issues that could wreck shop on your whole blogging empire, especially when first starting out.
Your mindset as a blogger is crucial to your success. If your mind is out of whack, your blog will suffer and your online platform will ultimately die a silent death in the far outer reaches of the Internet.
Just like an athlete being mentally prepared for the competition ahead, so should the blogger be ready for what lies ahead.
As your mind brilliantly dances between creativity and negativity, you’ll at some point find yourself coming face to face with some of the nastiest doubts you could ever imagine.
So, you need some strategies to help alleviate the stress and to help you reset your focus to start to gain traction with your blog again.
Let’s talk about the 7 thoughts that could derail your blogging journey and how we can make them our bitch.
Doubt 1 – You Have No Shot
This is a given. You’re going to think, at one point along the way, that you are fighting a losing battle. That you don’t have what it takes to actually turn a profit in this crazy online world.
All of your competition’s websites in your niche look spectacular. They are fully built out and have been running for years.
Then you jump back to your minimal blog, think about all of the work you have ahead of you, and start to cry. It’s ok, we’ve all been there.
Doubt 1 = Your B*tch
The only way to overcome this doubt is to do something about it. And by that, I mean, start to do anything to move your platform forward.
Chip away at the work. Don’t think of everything you have to do, think of something you have to do. Then do it.
Doubt 2 – You Won’t Be Heard Amongst All the Noise
Building online is tough, and it gets harder by the day. More and more people are jumping into the online business space and it is CROWDED.
You wonder how you will stand out from everyone else.
If you do a search for your particular topic, I’m sure you’ll find thousands of other resources and websites. The market is saturated.
Reality is, if you think of something, it’s probably already been done. If it hasn’t been done, there probably isn’t a market for it.
Doubt 2 = Your B*tch
This one is actually pretty easy. Just be yourself.
I know that sounds like a cop-out but that’s really all you can do. That’s the only differentiator you can establish amongst your peers. There is only one you. Embrace your uniqueness.
If you want a bit more strategic advice, dig deeper into your particular niche. Some experts call this “niching down”. That means instead of talking about mountain biking, maybe you talk about East Coast middle age men who just started mountain biking.
Dig a little deeper into your topic and see if you can identify a particular focus.
Doubt 3 – You Are Way Behind Everyone Else
You are always going to feel like you are behind others. It’s natural, and it’s ok. You only have a basic website and your competitors have an entire online platform built with integrated outposts on numerous social media platforms.
You only have a basic website and your competitors have an entire online platform built with integrated outposts on numerous social media platforms. But that’s ok, really it is.
Doubt 3 = Your B*tch
The truth is, yes, you are behind others. But, it’s a natural timeline. That means you are behind others but there are a bunch of folks who are behind you too that are thinking you are way ahead of them!
Crazy right?
Just realize that everyone that is building a blog or online business is somewhere on their own timeline. Continue to move forward and close the gap between you and your competitors.
Doubt 4 – You are Moving Too Slow
You look around and you see your social media feeds full of activity from your friends and competitors. They seem to post every day while you only get around to it once in awhile.
They are releasing products and have what seems like monthly launches. Yet you struggle to finalize a course concept that you’ve been thinking about for months.
Doubt 4 = Your B*tch
Stop trying to race everyone. As long as you consistently provide value to your audience, everything will be ok.
You don’t have to be everywhere at once. Focus on one thing and do it well. Do it at a pace that fits your life and doesn’t cause undue stress.
Doubt 5 – You Are Doing It All Wrong
Contrary to what you might hear, there is no magic formula. There is no get rich quick scheme or strategy that you can plug in and sit back and collect passive income. It takes work.
You’ll hear plenty of advice and expert tips but there is no particular way you need to do things.
You will also hear many success stories online with people making 5 figures with their blog every month. But you won’t hear the failures, which occur much more often.
Don’t internalize this and think that your particular method will not work. It takes time and experience to master the craft of blogging and to turn your online business into something profitable.
Doubt 5 = Your B*tch
Explore your own style. Figure out what works for you. Figure out what you enjoy and what you can get done given your current workload.
Explore different ways to provide value.
Are you a writer? Blog more.
Are you outgoing and talkative? Start a podcast.
Are you animated and love to act? Do more videos and Facebook Live sessions.
Find your best delivery method then learn everything about it and dive into it. Figure out how you can make it work for you and go for it – full steam ahead.
You also need to make sure you actually enjoy what you are doing. If you do, who cares if you are doing it “right”? This is especially true if you are doing this as a side business.
If you do not enjoy it, then you should examine if you should continue going down the path you are on. There is no shame in pivoting to another model or simply walking away.
Now, on the question of money. Yes, people are making money online. Some of them are killing it and making ridiculous money online. But, the vast majority of us online are working hard to try to figure it out.
Don’t feel as if you aren’t worthy because you aren’t raking in the dough like you hear from others. Oh, and sometimes they are lying. So there’s that too.
Bottom line, if it’s your passion, just keep doing what you are doing. The money will come if it is something you want.
Doubt 6 – You are Inferior
You see these Internet stars and big personalities and think they are much more successful and different than you. You almost start to put them on a pedestal.
It’s natural to think this way about “famous” people but you need to put it into perspective.
Doubt 6 = Your B*tch
Remember these people are just like you. They put on their pants just like you do. They have families. They have worries. They have struggles too.
And they started where you are at some point in their lives.
A lot of people talk about online entrepreneurs like John Lee Dumas and his amazing success. Well, he used to be sitting in the audience at major conferences just like you. He started just like you.
Always remember that just because someone has achieved what you might hope to achieve does not make them better people or superior to you in any way.
Doubt 7 – You Are Completely Lost
What do you do next? You live in a constant state of confusion.
You want to blog. You want to podcast. You want to sell a product. You want to be a coach. You want to write a book. You want to write an app.
You get the idea.
All of this can really get overwhelming. There are so many possibilities that entrepreneurs and bloggers often drown in the potential.
While it is a beautiful thing, it can also be a curse.
Doubt 7 = Your B*tch
This one goes back to taking it one step at a time. You can’t do everything at once.
Pick something and do it well. Get that one thing up and stable, then move on to the next thing.
Everyone feels overwhelmed and lost from time to time. Stay focused on the exact task at hand and try not to get distracted.
Make sure you manage your workload and only work on items that will move your business forward.
